First timer's Shameless Self Promotion: Hi We're one of the house bands! (HOT BREAKFAST!)
30th-Aug-2016 04:52 pm
Hi, all!

First time DC'er and longtime LJ'er here! I'm so happy to have found this group-- I really appreciate all the links and I've been devouring the info... I feel like I'm just getting the hang of it all now. (We're veteran Burners, so if we can handle Burning Man, we can handle this, I hope!)

Our band is called "HOT BREAKFAST!" (and yep, it's spelled in all-caps with the exclamation point, though most folks forget to do that, which is totally understandable) -- and when you see us, you'll understand why we write it that way. We are Delaware's premier acoustic dork-rock power duo. :-) We're often described as The Dead Milkmen meets Tenacious D meets The Eurythmics; with award-winning powerhouse vocals and wry, clever, often funny, English-major (and also-award-winning) songwriting, furious guitarwork, and disturbingly-attractive bodies. (We're a VERY SERIOUS band. ;-) )

We were approached to play DragonCon after Megan Jean and the KFB recommended us. We love them-- we shared a bill with them and they told us what a thrill it is to play at Dragon Con, and how heartbroken they are that their management contract precludes them from playing there any more. They said we'd be a perfect fit, and then they were kind enough to put in a kind word on our behalf.

Anyway, we've been hired to be a house band, so we'll be playing three shows in the concourses, and we're also open to playing some extra-curricular parties if we have a good match.

Here's our schedule:

[] Friday 2:30pm on the AmericasMart Concourse Stage II
[] Saturday 5:30pm on the Hyatt Concourse Stage I
[] Sunday at 1:00pm on the Hyatt Concourse Stage I

We play mostly originals, but when we do a cover, it's something you'd never expect an acoustic duo to attempt: Mr. Roboto by Styx, Total Eclipse of the Heart by Bonnie Tyler/Jim Steinman, Queen's theme from Flash Gordon (HOLY CRAP-- knowing Sam Jones and Melody Anderson are going to be there... could you imagine if we could play that for them?!), or Jesus Christ Superstar in its entirety in under 9 minutes (including intermission!). We have a blast, and best of all, our audiences have a great time too, and everyone is welcomed into our community of proud dorks! ONE OF US! ONE OF US!

Oh hey: Mention LiveJournal and we'll give you a card with a free song download!

See you soon! SO EXCITED!!

I've heard Dragoncon described as 'like Comic Con and Burning Man had a baby.'
That's not exactly right, but close. It's more fan driven, which tends to make for more participation, inclusion, self expression. Lots of immediacy. Not so much decommodification, lnt, or self reliance
