Puppy! Yea!

a silly question...

When I first get there to Atlanta, what should I do first? Should I register for the con itself, or try to find the person who has reserved our room and check in? I'm staying in one of the host hotels, so I'm not sure what to do. I'm not even sure when my "roommate" is getting there.

Venture Bros. Meetup is Go!

Hello again fellow Con-goers!

I've spoken with the Animation Track Director and looked over the tentative schedule and have made a stab at arranging a get-together for Costumed Venture Bros characters (and of course, anybody that wants photos).

As it stands right now, There is a VB fan panel being run by the People's Republic of Venture at 5:30 on Saturday in the Baker room.

I have secured Baker from 4:00-5:30 (right before the VB fan panel) so that if anybody wants to meet up, we can, and get a photo shoot going (or whatever it is we're supposed to do).

So, here's what I propose:

If you are a VB fan and are wanting to participate in a costumed get-together, meet at Baker between 4:00-4:15 on Saturday. Depending on the turnout and the desirability of the location for photography, we can consider if we want to move en masse from Baker to another location.

Baker, admittedly, is not the most glamorous location, but it's at least identifiable, empty at that time, and places you at the next VB panel.

If anybody wants to go ahead and discuss alternative locations to do the photos after we meet at Baker, I suppose this would be the place to do it! I don't really have any more details to offer, but if you want to contact me, please do at

Hope to see as many of you as possible! Go Team Venture!

Anyone still selling an extra pass?

Hey Guys!

So a friend of mine decided at the last minute to join my husband and I at DragonCon this year. He's more than willing to pay the TicketMaster price, but I told him that I would see if I could find anything cheaper.

So, is anyone still trying to sell a pass? If so, please let me know!!

Thanks. :)
SPN - I smell like awesome!!

Question about a guest...

I'm confused...I was looking at the Track Schedule for the Star Gate Off World Fandom, and I've noticed Colin Cunningham's name on several panels; however, I don't see him listed as a current or cancelled guest on the GC guest page. Did I miss something?

Last Minute Transfer?

I have a registration question...

This year, I'll be arriving at the con on Thursday night (from my home about 3 miles away LOL), but instead of a normal pre-registered badge, I have a last minute transfer.  From the website I figured out that I will need to go to the Solutions Desk to get that taken care of, so the big question is...

Do I have to stand in the evil, long pre-reg nightmare line, or can I just cut straight through to Solutions?

Front steps of the museum beside the Marriott

Either I or my husband will be there to keep things going. Look for a chick with dreadlocks in a black dress with a red hourglass on her corset or a fellow in a gray Victorian suit with a long brown wig and a top hat.

I'd particularly appreciate it if you'd contact me with your name and costume by joining our Myspace Group ( and posting in the Roll Call thread.

See you there!

Update on the Pocket Program

Hey Everyone,

Your friendly neighborhood publications geek here. Thought I would let you know that the Pocket Program (with Maps and Descriptions) can be downloaded in PDF format here:

I am working on creating GoogleDocs for the text files and will post with those links (and they will be available via the above link as well) as soon as I have them complete!

Thanks so much for your patience, and enjoy!

Dragon*Con 2

Disappointing Heroes decision by NBC / Universal

Dragon*Con has been contacted by NBC/Universal and asked to remove our Heroes guests from our program panels. They have agreed to allow the Heroes guests to participate in autograph sessions.

Unfortunately, we have been unable to resolve this with the studio, and do not believe it will be resolved in time for the Convention this year. Therefore, per NBC/Universal's request, we have removed the guests from the Heroes panels.

One week!

Excactly one week from now, I leave Denmark for Dragon*Con. It was a blast last year and this year, we're 4 Vikings instead of 2. I can't wait - Dragon*Con is one hell of an amazing experience.

See you all there!

quick & dirty mad scientist outfit

Apologies if this shows up twice; LJ ate the first one, I think, as it's not on my "edit entries" list.

Howdy folks,

I run the Science Track, which makes me the Sr. Mad Scientist. Let's assume you want to check out the Mad Scientists' Ball (Sunday night, 8:30pmish for the set-up and tech questions, 10:00pmish for the Tesla Coil mayhem, Hyatt Regency V ballroom) and snag some of the free swag, but you're just not sure what to wear. Don't panic, I'm here to help.

"It's all in the name of SCIENCE!"

OK, I'm trying to figure out how to ask this without getting locked...there were two gents at last year's con, one of whom was wearing a neck brace (hope you're feeling lots better!). They were giving, "vibrating" hugs.

Are you guys going to be there this year (I hope, I hope, I hope!)?

The UPDATED Dragoncon Restaurant Guide!

Since a lot's changed since I first put this little guide together, it'd be a good idea to fix it up and have it ready in time for the big show next week. It shows every eatery and store I could find through Google and confirm existed that's located around the four primary host hotels, and a handy map to show where they are. Lots of 'em are clustered together, didn't notice that last time. The only thing I couldn't find for sure was whether smoking was still allowed around there.

Here's the link to the pdf. lilithschilde will be hosting another copy as well in case this one can't be accessed. EDIT: And here it is. Thanks again lilithschilde! Hope this helps, and have fun folks!

P.S., the only place other than the Publix to get wine around there is the convenience store in the lower level of Peachtree Center.

Guest panel

I've been pouring over the pocket guide and already I have a big question because I see back-to-back guest panels that I want to attend so:

Will the ballrooms be cleared of people after each big guest panel?

I know in the past this was the procedure for panels which attract a large crowd and generate long lines, but with the addition of the other ballrooms this year, I thought maybe audience members coming to an earlier panel would now be able to stay in their seats for the next one.

Parking Questions...

Okay, my friends and I are heading to the con on Thursday and staying at the Mariott until Monday. But, as the con nears, we're realizing we don't exactly know how we're getting there.

We can all drive, and don't mind driving down there. But... we can't seem to find out how much it costs to park at the hotel (if we get there in time to get a parking spot) or what time we need to be there to get a parking spot. Or would it be cheaper to park at another nearby, relatively safe parking lot not connected with the hotel? And, if so, where and how much?

We were also thinking about being dropped off and picked up, probably by parents. D: (What a drag, I know, but it means we avoid the costs of parking). That would be free for us, but it would, unfortunately, mean we'd get there later in the day, risking missing out on a good hotel room, mini-fridge, etc.... And we'd also have to leave on someone else's schedule, and wouldn't have anywhere to keep our bags/suitcases after checkout... But is dealing with these problems worth not paying?

And we were toying around with the idea of getting a cab, but then we still have a problem of having nowhere to keep our bags on Monday after checkout. We'd be paying money, but we would be coming and going on our own time.... And does anyone have a rough estimate of how much it'd cost to get from Marietta to Atlanta in a cab?

So... what is the best option for us?

The Marriot (no, not a room request post).

I have a question. I'm having issues getting images to show on the Marriot website and I was wondering if anyone stayed in their two-bed rooms last year and may have a pic or two of what they look like. I just want to make sure everyone is comfortable in there since we'll have two children in the room as well.

Help Choose the Top 10 Horror Films of All Time (Results announced at Dragon*Con)

In 2008, the AFI (American Film Institute) announced it's results for the Top 10 in 10, that is, the best 10 films in each of the 10 major genres of American film. The genres? They were Animation, Romantic Comedy, Western, Sports, Mystery, Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Gangster, Courtroom Drama, and Epic. See anything missing? According to the AFI, Horror is not one of the 10 major genres. Yup, courtroom drama trumps horror. Hmm.

Well, it's time to fix that oversight. They may have the members of the AFI, but we have the attendees of Dragon*Con, 30,000 strong, and we know horror. So, we need your help. We need you to vote. Like the AFI, we're using a ballot of 100 films (chosen by Dr. Bob Blackwood and Dr. John L. Flynn, together known as The Film Doctors, and by Dragon*Con Film Festival director, Matthew M. Foster). Unlike the AFI, we're allowing one write-in per ballot, because there's a lot of horror films out there.

Voting is simple, if a little low tech. Just download the Ballot here (it's in Word format), place "X"s by the 10 horror film you think are the best (or 9 and write-in one of your favorites), and then email the ballot back to us at Or, just send us a list of your 10 selections (please, only one write-in) typed into an email. Either way, use the subject: Top 10 Horror Films. The results will be announced on Monday, Sept 1 at 11:30am in the Regency Ballroom.

For those of you who just want to type in your choices in an email, Collapse )

coffeeshop/wine bar?

Hi all,

I want to do host a meet-and-greet while at the Con but I'm not sure where to do it. Can anyone recommend some good, nearby coffee shops or wine bars? I've been to D*Con before, but I've always hung out in the food court. I'm looking for something a bit nicer this go round.

Sorry probably another stupid question, but I'm trying to make sure everything is ready so I wont have too many snags at DC.

I've been reading about people taking weapons and what they have to do with them. I will be taking a kendo stick. Is this considered a weapon and will I have to do anything specific with it?

I told you it was a stupid question.

Other than that...aslong as I don't get turned away at the doors when I try to buy a one day pass or somehow get turned away at the wrestling show I think I should be a rather happy camper.

And the wind began to howl...

The Colonial Fleet's BSG Party has MOVED!

All you glorious frakkers who were planning to attend the BSG celebration...please note that our humble dance has moved to a not-so-humble and ginormous ballroom. Instead of being in Conference Room D-F, we've spooled up our FTLs and jumped to the Sheraton Atlanta's CAPITOL BALLROOM - a mercury-class battlestar on the Main Level capable of outfitting survivors from all twelve Gauis Baltar's harem.

We wanted to remain next doors to the Browncoats...but fate had other plans in store for us. Besides, who can simply compete with Wash AND The Cap'n?! ;)

Steak & Ale bit the bone

For those of you who may not know, the Steak and Ale at Courtland and Andrew Young International Blvd has bit the dust, along with most of the chain. The Klingons had held a large dinner there last Sunday of D-Con, about 65. This year, we opted for Durango this year because we volunteered to give up the large banquet room I had reserved last year to the Browncoats for their large dinner.

So if you were planning a dinner gathering at S&A, be aware it is kaputed.

Stargate Atlantis canceled

They'll finish out this season, then make a 2-hour DVD movie to wring as much money out of the fans as possible resolve the cliffhanger from episode 100 (the last one).

Way to be, SciFi.
