Possible national pickup for "Four Days at DragonCon"

By way of announcement, this is a slightly edited email from Jack Walsh who was the Producer for "Four Days at Dragon*Con."

-------------------------

Sorry for the group email, but I had a lot of people to reach. I’m contacting you because you are in, associated with, or otherwise familiar with the documentary “Four Days at Dragon*Con” which aired in the Fall of 2010 on PBA, Atlanta’s PBS station. It was shot at D*C 2009.

We are pleased to a announce that the show has been picked up for national distribution and will be available to PBS stations around the country for airing next April, 2011.

Here’s the deal: while it will be available nationally, it’s up to individual stations to air it. If at least 25 don’t opt in, it won’t happen. So, we need people to contact their local Public Broadcasting stations and request that they run the show. If you live outside of Georgia, this is your chance to see it on TV. Tell your friends, fans, followers and other contacts to request it. If you live in Atlanta and have seen the show, tell people out of state. When you contact your local station, you should request the documentary “Four Days at Dragon*Con” and specify that it is available from American Public Television. You can find your local affiliate here: http://www.pbs.org/stationfinder/stationfinder_relocalize.html

Also, we will be streaming the show in its entirety online, but not until April.

Thanks for your help in this, and I hope you dig the show.

Super, it deserves it, one of the best if not *the* best D*con documentaries.

Technically there are, but they are more of people waving a camera around and telling us about the con. This one is more on a professional level.

I would like to see this in my local area (KQED) but am not good at writing letters of request. what kind of language do i use. do other stations buy the show or do they request it? I have not seen the show, do i need to describe it?
i realized all of this as i was writing the email and recognized how little i know on this subject.

Using the staion finder link (in the original message), locate your local PBS station. Go to their web site and you should be able to find the name of the Program Director. Address your letter to them. And when I say letter, I mean letter, not e-mail. When looking for your local station, you may even do a Google search, or do a call letter search, but remember most Public Stations use .org.

Request the program by using it's full and proper name as well as the producing station if possible. Mention you read that it will be available to member stations in April 2011 and you would like to see the show. Describe your interest and even tell them you have attended Dragon*Con in the past.

Be polite!
Don't say things like "I'll never donate to Public TV if you don't show it".
Be polite!
Spelling counts.
Real letter on paper, not e-mail.
Spelling counts.

Yes, I did repeat myself. I used to work for a PBS member station and know that the first letters that are thrown away are the threatening ones and ones with poor spelling.

Also remember, you're asking for a favor, so be polite. : )

Sadly, not Georgians but just Atlantians (Atlantites?). :( I have to wait until April.

I asked my local PBS station and they declined, citing that they felt it promoted Satanism. Sure would be nice if someone hooked me up with a DVD or something...

Just kidding. Not really, but yeah.
