Ok, fellow D*C peoples!

Today a group in England numbering around 475 danced and turned stats into GWR.  Tonight, Mexico will be doing it, although I don't think they'll be doing the same record (if it really is for Guinness).

We need more dancers!!

I want this record for us, dang it!!  We geeks at DragonCon deserve this!  The dance isn't hard once you learn the basics, and you do not have to be perfect at it.  Join us so we can own the world record!!

www.dragonconthriller.com

Come to the site and pledge to participate.  You will also have to register at the con even if you've signed up, but this will give D*C an idea of numbers.  The room can hold 1,000, and we're almost half-way there.  We will be done in time for those that wish to attend the Masquerade will still go, and although you must attend one of the formal rehearsals, there's one at 4pm which should give you plenty of time to dance, get in costume, secure the record, and get to the Masq. :)

That record is OURS!!

Hi there.

I've been watching those training videos but in all honest that dance is formidable and I don't have the attention span what with the last few day crunch to con.

I'm going to come to rehersal, hopefully you can figure out some simple moves for me because I won't have the full dance commited to memory.

Yours Hopefully

(Droogy) Rob.

Rob,

You can do it! Seriously, I've only been at learning it hap-hazardly, and just today went through the whole thing at slow speed for the first time. If you flub, it's okay - we're zombies! :)

Thank you for your support. I got down the first three, but then it went all crazy. I'll look at it a little more but I'm going to count on rehersals : D

Thanks again for all your support, love you guys : D

Dear LJ friend I have seen post often, you can do this! I learned it in a week's time. There are 8 lessons and the first 3 are easy enough to be knocked out in your first time. Then just add about 1-2 lessons each day this week. Just get the moves down and putting it together at the con will be a much easier process. There's really only about 2 mins of "new" moves, then it just repeats and recycles them in various orders.

And once you know the basics (and like I said, we're not expecting perfection!), you'll see that there's a pattern. Like right after "air guitar" the "rock on" step is next.

Piece o' cake!

And yea, if you flub, you're a zombie! Work it!

Thank you very much for your kind words, most appreciated : D

The previous world record holders learned the dance in two hours. Honestly, I was intimidated at first, too, after seeing all the videos and all the steps. But the way it's taught makes it surprisingly simple, and I've been able to go through the whole thing at full speed for the past week, after spending one week perfecting it.

There will be several unofficial practices all around the con the whole weekend, so keep an eye out.

What I've been doing is listening to the song w/cues and "sing" along while driving anywhere. It gets you to remember because once they play the song without them, it gets a little hairy. You'll also have people all around you doing the moves too, so watch them for cues. I'm sure there will be people saying the cues too while dancing.

You can do it!

Bad news, sports fans....

"Led by Mexican Jackson impersonator "Héctor Jackson" and choreographer Adolfo Chávez, the group was preparing for an Aug. 29 event in which an estimated 11,000 people in Mexico City will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the biggest mass "Thriller" dance. Jackson would have turned 51 on that date."

Yep, we know about that. They've only had 50 people show up for the practices, and they're only doing the 3 minute version which is not what Guinness wants. We've also read reports on how they're doing the evidence, and, again, it's not per GWR.

It's on our radar. ;)

Cool.....

It would have to be this year that I broke my foot, no? I'm hoping I can walk ok, don't think dancing is in my immediate future.

I'm confident in our abilities to successfully succeed :D

How many dancers do we have so far?
29th-Aug-2009 10:20 pm (UTC)

Over 400 have pledge on our site.

It's a convention of thousands, I'm sure more people will appear when the buzz gets round. There are people who do not use LG that will be attending. Wonder if the Wolf Pack might be interested in this.

Oh, several of us are doing it.

*zombie voice* Join us....

"This will not stand, ya know, this aggression will not stand, man!"

I hope we can break the record!

I hope the words (from the ThrillTheWorld videos) will be called out. I think it will help a lot of people. I myself know the dance but sometimes I brain fart and it would be easier to just hear the words, rather than look up and see the volunteers on the sides.
31st-Aug-2009 02:43 am (UTC)
The words will not be called out. This terrified me at first, but after listening to the podcast with cues at ThrillTheWorld.com several times, now I can hear the cues in my head. Be brave! There will be "beacon" dancers who know it down pat dispersed among the crowd - when in doubt, zombie it up and follow along! :)

As of yesterday, there were 3 attempts at breaking the world record for Thriller, include one of over 13000 people in Mexico. Out all of these only one, and that is England with 500 people, has done it by Guinness guidelines. Mexico City and Barcelona did the short 2.5 minute video version, which they are claiming is the record and have turned it into Guinness. They will find out in one week if they did indeed break the record.

People, I encourage you, if you were even slightly thinking about doing Thriller JOIN US. We can beat England's 500 and do so at the time when Mexico City and Barcelona find out they did it wrong. International drama folks! Let's get us some!

You are thinking "I can't dance" Hell! Neither can WE. Come on y'all!

You are thinking "why should I care. I didn't even like Michael Jackson"
----well, let's face it, dude did some whacked sh*t during the last decade. I know I've made my share of fun, but you know what? I grew up with the guy in my life. We all did. The day he died we all lost a little part of our youth. Who didn't try to moonwalk across their mama's kitchen floor?

AND you will be learning a dance that you can whip out at any party when you hear that music start. I can't count how many times I've heard Thriller at a club, party, or even there at Dragon Con and wished that I knew how to do it.

Though it would be best to learn it now, we will be teaching the dance at the first practice on the schedule at 4pm Sunday. Lauren and Kimber have worked so hard on the website and the Guinness paperwork and getting Dragon Con in bed with it. I'm heading up the dancing part. Make me work hard too.

Some come on guys, we so far have 400+ signed up to do this and a couple hundred more at con will put us above England. When Mexico and Spain get all pissed off because they get the thumbs down (for what I must say is a valiant effort...good gawd 13000???), don't you want to be the one they are glaring at?? :D I do!

RAAAWWWRRRR!!!
